Finnish bronies mostly do not like ponychan (namefags etc). Besides it's nice to be able to talk about ponies in our own language and get to know bronies from our own country.

I have never ever been to Ponychan, cause I just love finnish ponyfandom. I have had no need to use Ponychan. I prefer lurking in my own language and it's easier to arrange meetups and stuff like that.

The only reason I use Ponilauta is to check up on a few random threads once in a while, /art/ sometimes and then the meetup threads.

Whatever you may think about it, but I've never truly been interested in being truly anonymous, as I find it easier to have a conversation when I can identify the person I'm talking to, even if it's just a string of letters. I don't have a problem with it on sites like Omegle where it's one-on-one, but on image boards I'd like to keep track of things somehow. Because of this, Ponychan's "namefaggotry" appeals to me more than Ponilauta and Northpole.fi/poni/.

But at least there's the IRC channel for this board, I suppose.

Because in Finland it's considered attention whoring. It's just one of those differences between finnish and weird other western cultures. For example, if you do anything (except politics or sport) and get your name to the newspapers, people will think you're just after some attention.

Finnish bronydom seems to be much more deeply rooted in Finnish anonymous imageboard culture than the international fandom, which has grown beyond that ages ago. As a result, Finnish bronies prefer to stay anonymous.

However, the desire to remain anonymous also stems from Finnish society in general. After all, compared to other western cultures, Finns are a racist and intolerant people, which in here is evident in the amount of name-calling; rather than trying to refute your arguments, those that disagree with you will call you an assburger or autistic, which is of course easy when you're anonymous. In addition, in Finnish society, standing out in any way is frowned upon: if you have exeptional skills in something, if you're rich, if you are in any way "better" or even just different compared to the general populace and others get wind of this, Finns will hate you for it. This is especially true during school-years, and seeing as how the Finnish imageboard culture is mostly comprised of teenagers, this mentality carries over to the fandom. Even for most adult Finns, the social stigma of liking something as unconventional as ponies is unbearable. You won't see Finnish bronies adorning their office PCs with blindbag ponies or pony wallpapers like you will in other western societies.

Personally, I'm glad I got involved in the international fandom before stumbling on Finnish bronydom. The international fandom is just so much more positive and friendly.

People hate immigrants here because some of them keep breaking law.
